I was at the grocery store, picking up a few things to make my favorite Mexican meal - Birria Tacos. (Recipe incoming here soon in another post).
I was halfway through the self-checkout when a thought struck me:
Life is all about perspective.
All perspectives will eventually be replaced. You can't eliminate a negative perspective and have nothing left. A new perspective must replace the old one.
So, it’s important to focus not only on getting rid of your old negative perspective but also on building a new positive one. To see significant results, you will definitely have to make a big change in your daily life, but remember that change is always possible.
Just a thought.
This past week has been filled with a giveaway, sharp metal shards, sweat, and tomato sandwiches.
While everyone else is getting ready for the end of summer, packing lunches, and dusting off their kids' backpacks, I am already planning my schedule right up until to after Christmas. (And then I’ll take my birthday, 12/26, off and go right back to it.)
For instance, I had an interview and photoshoot on Monday for an article that won’t even be published until October. I am also applying to participate in markets all across the country and intend to promote my knives every month out of town until February. Wish me luck. Let me know if there is an artisan market near you that you think I need to hit up.
In addition to managing my business, I take my Sunday strolls, I mow the lawn at home and my shop and consider myself just a grain of sand in this huge world that keeps on turning.
I’m so grateful for the opportunity to create art that people use for lifetimes and pass down for generations. I love making a piece of history. Long after I’m dead and gone, my knives will keep on chopping.
I don’t know how it happened, exactly, but over time, I turned into that guy that you always think of when you find some hidden treasure or old tools in a barn.
People stop by my shop often with magnificent wares and sometimes I actually incorporate them into my pieces.
I’ve been tasked with writing a lot of bios about myself lately and to be honest, it’s hard to sum up who I am in only 300 characters.
I’m a knifemaker. But, at times, I’m also a jewelry maker, a sculptor, a luthier, a construction worker, a plumber, an electrician, a mechanic, a repairman, a knife sharpener, a painter, an architect, an engineer, a flow artist, a professional writer and salesmen, a hiker and outdoorsmen and a musician…and what I “do” and what my actual “abilities” often change from month to month. I’m just out here doing what I love and trying to tread lightly on the land.
I think that's the essence of life: transforming each day into something you love and then repeating it the next day. And the next day…and so on…
I’ve got a lot more to say, and a heck of a lot more to share, but I’ve decided I’m just going to make you wait until next week.
The mystery is more fun.
Until then—Peace.
